As business owners and leaders, many of us are invited to serve on nonprofit boards. It's an appealing opportunity—a chance to leverage our expertise for meaningful impact, to give back to our communities, and to expand our leadership experience beyond the for-profit world.

But are we truly prepared for what board service entails?

Inspired by Liberated Leaders' article "The Nonprofit Boardroom: New Terrain for a Couple of Business Leaders," this interactive workshop is designed to demystify nonprofit board governance and equip business leaders with the knowledge they need before saying "yes" to a board opportunity—or to be more effective in their current board service.

What to Expect:

This engaging two-part experience includes:

Part 1: Live Podcast Panel
A panel of nonprofit leaders and governance experts will share real-world insights about board service, executive director relationships, fiduciary responsibilities, and the unique challenges nonprofits face. Liberated Leaders co-founder Tina Dao will join as a panelist, bringing her hard-won lessons from navigating the complexities of nonprofit board service as a business leader.

Part 2: Interactive Workshop
Facilitated by Liberated Leaders, you'll work through real-world board scenarios in small groups—tackling governance challenges, identifying red and yellow flags, and developing practical frameworks for decision-making. Through group discussions and share-outs, you'll build actionable insights you can apply immediately.

Who Should Attend:

  • Business owners considering nonprofit board service

  • Current board members seeking to be more effective

  • Leaders exploring their "third act" of community impact

  • Anyone who wants to understand nonprofit governance beyond good intentions

Why This Matters:

Well-functioning nonprofits are vital to thriving communities, and strong business leaders can have tremendous positive impact through board service—when they're properly equipped. This workshop gives you the knowledge and frameworks to make informed decisions about board opportunities and to serve with clarity and confidence.
